Pronouns are these little words we use in place of nouns. Gender pronouns are the terms people choose to reflect their gender identity. The most common these days are he/him, she/her, or gender-neutral pronouns such as they/them. According to scientists, gender isn’t a rigid binary rooted in the sex a person was assigned at birth. Biology and culture BOTH influence gender identity, which can be fluid. In fact, there's a long history of people inventing gender-neutral pronouns--and many cultures already recognize more than two genders. So, why all the fuss about choosing pronouns?
