How Climate Change Affects Your Mood

By Renée H.
Our project's purpose was to show how temperature affects human behavior and someone’s overall mood.

Producer Statement

We chose this topic because we know people in our community who struggle with mental issues and we wanted to see if the environment played a role in their issues. We also chose this topic to get a deeper understanding of the tolls climate change has on our everyday lives. Not only how climate change is affecting the world around us but how it is affecting us mentally and physically. We want you to know this is not even remotely close to all of the factors behind mental issues, but we believe the environment can increase the effects. This is the first science documentary we have ever made. It was very informative to us about how climate change is affecting us as a community and taking a deep dive into that. It was also a great learning experience to be able to articulate it and express it in an artistic way.

Transcript

As we all know Climate change has drastically increased the temperature. There are many different ways it has impacted our lives, but Have you ever thought it could change your mood?Heat tends to make people more aggressive and changes someone's general mood. A study determined colder temperatures can reduce negative mental health results while heat escalates them. Heat can also affect the brain and cause loss of focus and can make simple tasks become harder. In warm conditions people tend to become more aggressive because of their increase in body temperature. Increased body temperature is accompanied by a higher heart rate, higher blood pressure, sweating of the skin, and heavy respiration. Scientists call this an increase in stimulation. Due to this shift an increase in body temperature can falsely be mistaken as anger which causes more aggression and violence. In conclusion, heat has an immense impact on human behavior and because of the increase of temperature from climate change humans become more aggressive.
